Beyond Grilled Cheese

As any self-respecting college student knows that along with paper, pens, and the 10 page research paper, easy and quick foods that require little to no preparation are an absolute must.  And grilled cheese sandwiches are up at the top of the list of necessities along with Ramen, instant coffee, and the assorted junk food of choice.  Mine were Reeses and Sun Chips.

But you can do so much better than that white bread, butter, and the yellow plastic they pass of as individually wrapped cheese slices.  Even adding various seasonings of choice (mine is garlic, always garlic), changing to REAL cheese (my favorite is the combination swiss and the sharpest chedder that comes pre-sliced), or using your bread of choice (whole wheat and thinly sliced sourdough cannot be beat), even simple additions like tomatoes, onions, mushrooms (all nasty in my opinion) or thinly sliced meats (bacon, real or veggie is a must, in my opinion) can make a boring, unhealthy sandwich into a an exciting plethora of flavours that at least has SOME nutrients in it.

And why stop at grilled cheese?  How about grilled PB&J?  Grilled Cream Cheese sandwich?  I'd wager that you could grill any sandwich you could come up with.  There are an almost infinite combination of bread and filling combinations that can turn lunch into ...
Like the art?  Ah the joys of having been an elementary education major.
