Poetry Resources

I love the internet.  Today's young poets and writers have resources galore at the simple insertion of a word or phrase of words into Google or any search engine they chose to use.  A lot of the following resources will work for any type of writing you use, but I'm focusing on the poetry part in this post.

There is this website I have found to be an awesome resource for styles of poetry.  Shadow Poetry has an amazing compilations and examples to aid you in your journey to writing your own poetry!

Also, if you're stuck with words to rhyme, I have a found a couple of websites that work pretty well.  RhymeZone and Rhyme Express.  You can always use your favorite search engine with the words "rhyming dictionary" to find a website you enjoy.

For a good thesaurus, you can always go here, and for a really  nice online dictionary there are a variety of websites like dictionary.com or the official Merriam-Webster website.

There is a whole world of tools for aspiring writers out there!  And while the internet is amazing for assisting you, don't forget to talk to people you know who are writers and poets.  They can teach you a lot more about the emotion that goes behind each poem more than any old website can.  Remember, poetry is more than words on a page.  Poetry is an expression of what the author is feeling more often than not.

Happy Writing!
