"In order for music to truly be music, there must be emotion embedded in every fiber of both the song and the artist." ~ Katie King
Now, I might have pulled that from a barrage of quotes and whatnot that I've read over the years, but to the best of my knowledge, that is MY quote. No matter the origin, the idea remains wholeheartedly true. If you listen to the song, you can hear whether or not the artist is putting themselves into that song. Again, keep in mind this is all my own personal opinion.
For example, Josh Groban. Have you HEARD his music? [melt] He is a very passionate artist. He puts everything he has into his songs, into his albums, into his concerts without being showy, flashy, and gaudy.
The second example comes from my favorite band of all time: Anberlin. Awesomely enough, the lead singer Stephen Christian has a side project called Anchor & Braille so that means a double dose of awesome lyrics and passionate singing. Stephen Christian started Anchor & Braille for two reasons: to use the songs he had written that were too personal for Anberlin to sing as a group, and because the songs weren't really suited for Anberlin's style.
Coldplay comes to mind when thinking of passionate songs. Chris Marten sings with such heart. I love listening to him singing because not only do I love the lyrics, the way he sings those lyrics are beautiful.
I could continue on forever about this, I think, but I'll leave it at three for now.
Peace out peeps.
